Remote Online Notarization (RON)
Want to close on your house without coming to the office?
If you are buying, selling or refinancing real estate and can’t appear in person to sign the documents, Southern Title has a solution for you.
What is Remote Online Notarization (RON)?
Remote Online Notarization (RON) gives you the ability to securely notarize deeds, and other documents needed to transfer title, from the comfort of your home! In the RON session, you would join the Southern Title Remote Online Notary Public, and other parties to the transaction, using secure two-way audio-visual communication. A RON closing provides flexibility of scheduling while allowing you plenty of time to review all your documents prior to signing.
Benefits of RON
- Conveniently sign documents anywhere from your computer or tablet. The only requirement is that you have a working webcam, microphone and speakers (and know how to use them!)
- Fast turnround for closings and legal documents.
- Secure, encrypted and legally recognized.
- Convenient for out-of-state or traveling signers.
Requirements
- Functional webcam, microphone, and speakers
- Valid ID
- Ability to pass Knowledge Based Authentication*
- *Knowledge-based authentication (KBA) is a security method that verifies a user’s identity by asking them personal questions they should know. These questions can be static, chosen from a pre-set list, or dynamic, generated from public records and credit history.
How It Works
- Schedule your online appointment by letting your Southern Title Closing Officer know you would like to sign via RON. If your transaction is financed, lender approval will be required.
- Southern Title’s RON Notary Public will contact you to set up the signing session once the file is ready to close.
- You will receive a secure link to join the session and will be required to verify your identity securely online.
- You will connect with the Southern Title RON Notary Public via live video session. Your Realtor or other representatives will be able to join as well.
- Our Southern Title RON Notary Public will review your documents with you and walk you through how to sign and notarize your documents digitally.
- The session will be recorded and you will receive signed versions of all your documents once the file is closed.
