In 1976, Stewart began her career as a “runner” for a title company in the Daytona Beach area, and over the next several years, processed files, handled closings, spearheaded marketing and earned her Licensed Title Agent and Certified Land Closer designations. In 1995, she brought ten of the area’s finest real estate closing professionals to Southern Title with three branch locations. Eleven years later, the company had established 21 offices.
Currently, the company manages 11 Southern Title offices in Volusia County, Flagler County, Duval County, Lake County, and Pasco County. In addition, the company operates a Commercial Division, a search plant, and offices specializing in escrow accounting, policy production, compliance, and technology.
Stewart has taken an active role in the real estate title industry. In November 2007, Shelley was elected by the Florida Land Title Association (FLTA) to serve as Agents’ Section Executive Committee Chair. In July 2008, she was named to the Florida 2008 Title Insurance Advisory Council, appointed by Lieutenant Governor Jeff Kottkamp. In November 2008, Stewart was named President of the Florida Land Title Association (FLTA) for the ensuing year. In addition, she was appointed to serve as a member of the American Land Title Association (ALTA) Governmental Affairs Committee for 2012-2013 and has served as the agent liaison to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). She was recognized for her dedication to the title industry when she was honored with the Raymond O. Denham Memorial Award for Outstanding Service by FLTA in 2014. In 2016, the Volusia Flagler Association of Women Lawyers named Stewart “Woman of the Year” and in 2017 and 2018 she was recognized as one of the nation’s top title agents at the Inaugural “Women in Title” event in Santa Ana, California.
Currently, Stewart serves as Past 2nd Vice President with the Florida Home Builder’s Association, having served as the highest ranking associate member of this 7,000 member builder organization. In her role, she advocates on behalf of the construction trades industry throughout Florida and is active in both Tallahassee and Washington, D.C. providing leadership and education on related industry legislation.
Under the leadership and direction of Ms. Stewart, the company’s culture is driven by commitment to excellence, a total dedication to maintaining the integrity of the title insurance product and an unwavering spirit to go “above and beyond” on a daily basis to exceed customer expectations.
